Bernice E. Hartway of Richmond was called to her heavenly home on November 13, 2025 at the age of 96. Bernice was born February, 26, 1929 in Richmond, MI to the late Alice (Hicks) and Herbert Beversdorf. She attended West Country School and graduated from Richmond High School in 1947. On May, 29, 1948 she married Carl Hartway at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and together they raised 3 children. She attended every school and sporting event that she could. Bernice had a strong faith and loved her church family at St. Peter’s. She was dedicated and found joy in helping out wherever she could. You could always count on her working at the pancake supper as well as baking dozens of cookies to be sold at the annual craft show cookie walk. She enjoyed hosting the ladies craft group at her home every Wednesday morning. Bernice loved feeding and watching the birds out of her kitchen window and would sit her young grandkids and great grandkids on her kitchen counter to teach them about the birds. Bernice had many talents and kept herself busy in her yard gardening, as well as crafting. Whether it be painting, stained glass or mosaics she had an incredible knack for creating unique one-of-a-kind pieces. Bernice was preceded in death by her loving husband Carl, and her brother Bryce Beversdorf. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at Orchard Grove Health Campus as well as Heart to Heart Hospice for their compassionate care during their mother’s stay. Bernice is survived by her children, Merrilee (Philip) Conger of Harrison Twp., Thomas Hartway of Richmond, James (Aileen) Hartway of Chesterfield Twp., grandchildren Stephen (Caren) Conger of Washington Twp., Sarah (Eric) Hershberger of Royal Oak, Bryan Hartway of St. Clair Shores, Erin (Marcuz) Young of Chesterfield Twp., Lindsey (Kevin) Burke of Washington Twp., and Carrie Hartway of Washington Twp., as well as 6 great-grandchildren.
