Betty Jean Hooper

Betty Jean Hooper, age 87, of Brown City, formerly of Deckerville, died on January 2, 2019 at the Sanilac Medical Care Facility. Poor health related to kidney cancer was a part of Betty's life journey in her later years. Her pain is ended, and she has entered eternal rest claiming the promises learned in her young life in her family of faith. Betty was born on March 19, 1931 in Deckerville to the late Gordon and Lela (Elder) Swoffer. On June 17, 1950, Betty married Bruce Hooper. They farmed the Hooper family land their entire married life. They grew crops, raised chickens, and milked dairy cows. Pets were also in the yard. Betty enjoyed china painting, sewing, quilting and crocheting. She welcomed family and friends for visiting. Bruce preceded in death November 25, 2005. Betty later moved to Sandusky. She and Gerald Pratt shared life and their faith until his death. Most recently, Betty lived in Brown City. She is survived by nieces and nephews. Betty is predeceased in death by her parents, her sister, Mrs. Maxine (Clyde) Decker, Gerald Pratt, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Betty J. Hooper will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday January 5, 2019 in the Apsey Funeral Home. Pastor Paul Slivka will officiate. Burial will be in Downing Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday January 5, 2019 from 11:00 AM until the time of service. Memorials may be sent to United Hospice or the Charles Hooper Scholarship Fund.
