Betty D. Martin

Betty D. Martin, age 88, of Deckerville, went home to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ, on Saturday July 22, 2017. She was born July 20, 1929 in Berkshire the daughter of the late Alex and Irene (Siegert) Springborn. She grew up in Custer Township and attended Scott Country School and later Sandusky Community School. She married August Martin on September 3, 1955 in Sandusky. He preceded her in death on February 23, 1990. Betty was a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church, Sandusky, where she served on the Ladies Aid Society, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, and was a Sunday school teacher. She also served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and drove School bus for the Deckerville Community Schools. She enjoyed quilting and taught her great granddaughters how to quilt. She was a pitcher for the Alex Garcia slow pitch softball team well past age 50. One of her real passions in life was the Detroit Tigers. She kept the stats during every game, and the family knew they were not to call her during a game, unless it was between innings. Betty is survived by one son, Roger (Patti) Martin of Marine City; one daughter Kathleen (Richard) Spranger of Deckerville; seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; one brother Kenneth Springborn of Sandusky; and one sister Mrs. Geraldine Gordon of Croswell; also several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son Thomas Martin, her twin brother Bobby Springborn and two sisters Irma Gohs and Alice Springborn. Funeral services to honor the life of Betty D. Martin will be 11:00 AM., Tuesday in Peace Lutheran Church. Pastor Richard Tino will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Sandusky.
