Edgar H. Martin, age 98, of Port Huron, formerly of Deckerville, died Sunday December 26, 2010 in Carol?s AFC Home. He was born January 28, 1912 in Speaker Twp., the son of the late Robert Edwin and Maymie Eliza (Hawks) Martin. He married Margaret Ruth Long on December 21, 1938 in Port Huron. She preceded in death on January 2, 2001. Edgar has seen many changes in lifestyles in his lifetime. In his youth he bought a Model A., car for $10.00. As a young adult he ground grain for farmers with a steam engine. Later he became a farmer and opened a Minneapolis-Moline dealership in Deckerville, where he and Ruth raised their family. Later they moved to Port Huron, where Ed drove truck for a construction company. After his retirement he enjoyed raising pigeons, canaries, parakeets, doing yard work, watching ballgames and going to garage sales. He has been blessed with many years of good health and, an alert mind. He is survived by three sons and a daughter, Robert (Charlene) Martin of Yale, James (Nancy) Martin of Phoenix, AZ., Grant (Jackelyn) Martin of Croswell, and Marilyn (Wm.) McConnachie of Harbor Beach, eleven grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, a sister Mrs. Donna McNabb of Bradenton, Fla., and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Elsie Graham Martin and sisters Bernice Hinton and Eileen Bricker both of Yale. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Edgar Martin will be 11:00 AM., Tuesday in the Apsey Funeral Home. Rev. John R. Allan will officiate. Burial will be in Downing Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:00-9:00 PM., Monday.
