Elmer M. Susalla

Elmer M. Susalla, age 89, of Palms, died Thursday, February 2, 2023, in the Sanilac Medical Care Facility with his family by his side. He was born June 13, 1933, in Parisville, the son of the late Lucille Susalla. He grew up in the Ubly area and graduated from Ubly High School in 1953. He was drafted into the US Army during the Korean War and was later discharged as a Sergeant. He married Rena Graff on November 7, 1959, in Palms 63 years ago. Elmer worked for General Motors for thirty-five years as a toolmaker and retired from there in 1993. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, snowmobiling and he built his own homes. He was a member of St. Patrick's -St. Isidore Parish in Palms. Elmer is survived by his wife Rena of Palms; five daughters, Nanette Susalla of Sandusky, Danielle Susalla of New Baltimore, Malinda (Dr. Mark Dean) Susalla of Columbus OH, Michelle (Jerry) Brogdon of Chesterfield, and Dionne (James) Huffman of Warren; six grandchildren, Candice Brogdon, Lauren Glowe, Dustin Brogdon, James Huffman, Grace Huffman and Simone Dean; one great- grandchild Brooklynn Merriweather; one brother Donald (Bonnie) Nowak of Turner, and one sister Mrs. Diane Vande Kerkhoff of Omaha, NE: and several nieces, nephews and many close friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his mother Lucille Susalla; two brothers Frank Nowak and Alger Nowak; sister-in-law Mary Nowak; and brother-in-law Paul Vande Kerkoff. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday February 21, 2023, at St. Patrick-St. Isidore Parish in Palms. Fr. Robert Kelm will officiate. A visitation will be from 10:00 AM on Tuesday until the time of service. Memorials may be given to the Sanilac Medical Care Facility.
