Floyd Hanger Sr., age 92, of Deckerville, left us to meet his great ?Creator? Yahweh and his lovely wife Elizabeth (Betty) and his lovely daughter Flora Jean (Hanger)Kearns on October 9, 2010.
Floyd was born January 29, 1918 in Bedford, Pa. He was orphaned before age 2 and was placed in an orphanage, until the age of 7, when he was placed in various homes and farms to work. At age 16 he joined the US Army.
He met his wife while on furlough at a roller rink in Toledo, OH. They were married on June 4, 1942. Floyd left for Germany on July 10, 1942. While serving there he was wounded and spent several days in the hospital before returning to the front at his request.
While in the Army, Floyd learned Judo and to Box as a middle weight.
After returning from the war, Floyd became an ordained minister and his wife an ordained Evangelist. Floyd dabbled in song writing and poetry, some of which he was able to sell and have published. Joining the Michigan Gospel Music Association he and his wife had a ministry of going around the country singing at various events, including entertaining the residents of Autumnwood. He also was a member of the Assembly of God church in Carsonville.
Floyd is survived by his son Floyd Jr. and his daughter Nancy Bell both of Farwell, and several grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty on December 28, 1986 and his daughter Flora Jean Kearns on March 12, 2004.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Floyd Hanger will be 2:00 PM. Thursday, October 14th in the Apsey Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Srock will officiate. Burial will be in Downing Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday 2:00-5:00 & 7:00-9:00 PM., and from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Thursday.
Memorials may be given to the Sanilac Humane Society.
