Gayle A. Tanton

Gayle A. Tanton, age 84 of Deckerville, died Thursday October 10, 2024, in Autumnwood of Deckerville.

She was born January 15, 1940, in Flint, the daughter of the late Wm. Harold and Arlene (Allen) Root.

Gayle grew up in Flint and Deckerville, moving to Deckerville in 1955. She attended Deckerville Community School, graduating in 1957. She attended Alma College for a year then transferred to Lansing Community College and enrolled in the LPN Nursing program.

On September 3, 1960, she married Robert R. Tanton in Deckerville.

She worked at Huron Memorial Hospital for four years then she and her husband moved back to Deckerville where she worked for the next 40 years for the Deckerville Community Hospital.

Gayle enjoyed crocheting, knitting and sewing. She was a member of the East Marion Baptist Church, 1st Baptist Church of Deckerville and Sandusky Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband Robert R. Tanton Sr. of Deckerville; one son Chris Tanton of Clarkston; four grandchildren, Lea Porkop, Kyle Tanton, Torrey Tanton and Annmarie Tanton and four great grandchildren; one brother Brad (Kathy) Root of Fla. and one sister Dawn (Stuart) Hooper of Tawas and several nieces and nephews.

Gayle was preceded in death by one son Robert R. Tanton Jr in 2018 and one daughter Cheryl Tanton in 2004 and one brother Gary Root.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Gayle A. Tanton will be Monday October 14, 2024, at 1:00 Pm in the Apsey Funeral Home. Pastor Brian Cuddie will officiate. The burial will be in Downing Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Right to Life of Sanilac County.
