James M. Hoffman Jr. died Tuesday June 8, 2021, in Stonegate Village Assisted Living Facility, Sandusky. He was born April 5, 1927, in Halfway, MI, the son of the late James Sr. and Gertrude (Barr) Hoffman. On June 25, 1948, he married Miss. Gloria Hewett in Deckerville. She preceded him in death on September 28, 2015. Jim graduated from Deckerville Community High School, farmed in Bridgehampton Township for over 70 years, drove school bus for Deckerville Community Schools, worked at Yale Rubber and Hewett Construction, and served as Bridgehampton Township Supervisor for several years. He was a lifelong member of 1st Presbyterian Church of Deckerville and served as a church trustee. Jim is survived by one son Ron (Susan) Hoffman of SC; two daughters Linda Spencer of Deckerville and Kathy Sweet of Carsonville; six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren; one brother Ross Gerald Hoffman of Marine City; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother Richard Hoffman; three sisters Virginia Holmden, Grace Reed, and Gloria Riley and sons-in-law Mark Spencer and Bob Sweet Funeral services to honor the life of James M. Hoffman Jr. will be 2:00 Pm Saturday June 12, 2021 in the Apsey Funeral Home. Rev. Dr. Leigh Holder will officiate. Burial will be in Downing Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM-2:00 PM Saturday in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be given to 1st Presbyterian Church or Downing Cemetery Association.
