James J. Nichols, age 90, of Deckerville, died Saturday in the Sanilac Medical Care Facility. He was born March 9, 1935, in Sharidan Township, Huro County the son of the late George and Lulu (Bissett) Nichols. He grew up on a small family farm in the Applegate area and attended the local country school there until his family moved to Westland. On December 31, 1965, he married Miss. Janet I. Rich in Westland. Jim served in the US Army for several years in the early 1960’s attaining the rank of Sergeant. After his discharge he worked for several years for National Coach in Forester and owned and operated Jim’s Collision Body Shop in Downington customizing cars. He also drove farm trucks for several farmers in the Deckerville area. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davison Motorcycle with family and friends, hunting, camping, and visiting friends at the local coffee shop. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #392. Jim is survived by his wife Janet of Deckerville, one son Ronald (Sandy) Nichols Sr. of Deckerville. Two grandchildren, Ronald Nichols II of Grand Rapids and one granddaughter Kari (Shaun) Wagner of Peck, one great granddaughter Kaylee Wagner and one sister Charlene Beyer of Applegate. He was preceded in death by one brother Ronald Nichols.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of James J. Nichol will be held at 2:00 p.m. with a visitation from 12:00 p.m. until the time of Service on Thursday October 15, 2026, at the Peshek Family Funeral Home-Apsey Chapel, 3467 Main St., Deckerville, MI 48427. Pastor Mark Garavaglia will officiate.
