Jean Tanton

Jean L. Tanton, age 92, of Harbor Beach, formerly of Deckerville, died Tuesday April 3, 2012 in Harbor Beach. She was born July 29, 1919 in Delaware Township, to the late Roy and Alta (Marriott) Cleland. She married Leigh Tanton on May 3, 1941 in Deckerville. He preceded her in death on February 9, 1995. Mrs. Tanton was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Deckerville United Methodist Women. She enjoyed cooking for her husband and six children, gardening, sewing, golf, cards, and walking with her friends. She is survived by three sons, Richard Tanton of Peck, Bruce and James (Diana) Tanton all of Harbor Beach, three daughters, Ms. Arlene Griffin of AZ., Mrs. Barbara (Jerry) Amey of Commerce Township, Ms. Mary Lou Tanton of AZ., thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, two sisters, Mrs. Ruth (Max) Tanton of Deckerville, and Mrs. Elaine Poole of Paw Paw, one sister-in-law Mrs. Shirley Tanton of Sandusky, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Tanton was preceded in death by one brother Gordon Cleland, and one sister Mrs. Doris Thompson. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Jean L. Tanton will be 11:00 AM., Saturday in the Apsey Funeral Home. Rev. Robert A. Srock will officiate. Burial will be in Downing Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM., Friday and 10:00 AM., until the time of service on Saturday. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.
