John Merriman

John Merriman, age 73, of Deckerville, died Tuesday December 25, 2012 in Port Huron Hospital. He was born March 25, 1939 in Wheatland Township, the son of the late Joel and Marian (Jones) Merriman. He married Miss. Janet Fritch on September 20, 1958 in Deckerville, she preceded him in death on February 25, 2004. John currently served on the Sanilac County Board of Commissioners. He was a life long area farmer. Served on the Wheatland Township Board for several years, and was a member of 1st Presbyterian Church, where he served as a church Elder for many years. He also was a member of the Deckerville Mens League, and the MMPA. He enjoyed bowling and served as the President of the Thumb Bowling League. John is survived by one son Jerry (Brenda) Merriman of Deckerville, one daughter Joni (David) Edgette of Otter Lake, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, two brothers, Russell Merriman of Ypsilanti, and CJ (Alice) Merriman of Lapeer, also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother Bud Merriman. Funeral services to celebrate the life of John Merriman will be 11:00 AM., Saturday in the 1st Presbyterian Church, Deckerville, CRE. Chris Wolf will officiate. Burial will be in Downing Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:00-8:00 on Friday in the Apsey Funeral Home.
