John Ernest Schoen

John Ernest Schoen, 82, of Fenton, Michigan went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 27th, 2026. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; his father-John Schoen, his mother-Eda Brueggemenn; sister-Marion Schoen; sister-Alice Schoen and son-Doug Schoen. He is survived by his sister-Johanna Farver of Filion, Michigan; his two children: son-Ron Schoen (Karen) of Swartz Creek, Michigan and daughter-Tammy Schoen (James Drake) of Fenton, Michigan; 6 grandchildren: Matt Smith; John Schoen (Ashley); Stephanie Schoen (Ahlivia); Dan Denike (Kristina); Nick Denike (Katie); Kalli Denike. 9 great grandchildren: Conner Schoen; Sloan Schoen; Brooklynn Denike; Nora Denike; Decklan Denike; Riley Denike; JoJo Denike; Devon Kozar; Madison Kozar and many nieces and nephews. He was born on February 23, 1944, in the middle of a blizzard at his uncle’s home in Palms, Michigan. He graduated from Ubly High School in 1963. He was a member of the 4-H club, Future Farmers of America and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Palms, Michigan. He was an avid hunter, a race enthusiast, loved playing cards, reading, gardening, canning and spending time with his family and friends. He met Donna (the love of his life) at Midwest Rubber Co in Deckerville, Michigan and married on April 2nd, 1964, at St John’s Lutheran church in Palms, Michigan and immediately started a family resulting in 3 children of their own, but their hearts had much more love to give, so they decided to become foster parents to many children in need and that doesn’t even count all the neighborhood kids who considered them the parents of the whole neighborhood. There was never an empty seat at their dinner table. John always did whatever he had to do to provide for his family, even working 3 jobs at one time, so all the kids never wanted for anything. He even found time to coach kids’ baseball. He worked at GM Pontiac Motors for 41 ½ years. He retired in 2006, determined to enjoy life while he still could. He thoroughly enjoyed both his home in Lapeer and his childhood farm in Minden City, Michigan. He moved in with his daughter and son-in-law in Fenton, Michigan, to be closer to his kids, enjoy their wildlife, go fishing with his furry partners in crime Snickers, Scrappy, Shadow and Winnie. Last but not least, he was a diehard sports enthusiast, but sadly a disappointed fan of both the Detroit Tigers & the Detroit Lions. Although it’s heartbreaking to know his time on earth with us has come to an end, we find comfort and peace to know Jesus welcomed him into heaven with wide open arms saying, “John you fought the good fight, you finished the race and you kept the faith.” “Well done, good and faithful servant.” It warms our hearts and souls to know that after a long 35 years, he is finally reunited with the one and only love of his life, Donna and their beloved son, Doug, who both died way too young.

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026 at the Peshek Family Funeral Home – Apsey Chapel. Funeral Service Will be at 1:00 p.m. with a visitation from 12:00 p.m. until the time of Service on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at the Peshek Family Funeral Home – Apsey Chapel, 3467 Main St., Deckerville, MI 48427.

Burial will take place at Downing Cemetery immediately following the Service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the family.
