Jon Edward Walkup

Jon E. Walkup, age 83, of Forester Township, went to be with his Savior and Lord on April 28, 2024, after an extended illness.

He was born April 1, 1941, in Hillsdale to the late Paul and Ketha (Nelligan) Walkup. After graduating from high school in 1959 he attended Central Michigan University where he obtained his bachelor’s degree and later a master’s degree in language pathology. He was a former employee of Harbor Beach and Ubly School systems as a speech and language pathologist. He later took additional classes and became principal at the Huron Intermediate School District Learning Center.

Jon married Miss Joyce Hooper on June 6, 1963, in Mount Pleasant. He was a member of the East Marion Baptist Church. He had put his trust in Jesus alone for his salvation at the age of 22. Jon enjoyed greeting people each Sunday and updated the list of people who attended and their phone numbers to keep the prayer chain up to date.

Jon enjoyed reading the Bible, playing games with his family, walking the dog and in warm weather golfing with his friends once a week.

Jon is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joyce A. Walkup of Deckerville; sons, Jeffery and Jay Walkup of Deckerville; sister Connie (Dan) Bills of Litchfield, and brother Bob (Iris) Walkup of Tustin, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services to honor the life of Jon E. Walkup will be at 12:30 PM Thursday May 2, 2024, in the Apsey Funeral Home.  Pastor David Frost will officiate. The burial will be in the East Marion Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10:30 AM until the time of service on Thursday.

Memorials may be given to the East Marion Baptist Church or Samaritan’s Purse.
