Joyce A. Walkup

Joyce A. Walkup, age 81, of Forester Township went to be with her savior on August 27, 2024, in her home.

She was born September 28, 1942, the daughter of the late Stanley and Evelynn (Hull) Hooper of Deckerville.

After graduating from Deckerville High School, she went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in education from Central Michigan University.

She accepted Christ as her savior as a child and led her husband Jon to the Lord. She told him she couldn’t marry him if he hadn’t accepted Jesus’ free gift of salvation.

Joyce worked as a secretary, assistant librarian at the Deckerville Public Library and a substitute teacher. She also helped on the farm and canned fruits and vegetables. She also helped take care of her father, then her two sons, Jeff and Jay and finally her husband.

She enjoyed mystery books. She also taught Sunday school and vacation bible school and witnessed as she was able. She was faithful in prayer. She enjoyed bible studies and the Old Testament in particular.

Joyce will be greatly missed by her two sons Jeff and Jay.

A funeral service to honor the life of Joyce A. Walkup will be held at noon Saturday August 31, 2024, in the Apsey Funeral Home. Pastor Paul Slivka will officiate. The burial will be East Marion Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to noon.
