Julie A. Shubel – age 58 of Deckerville, MI, died on May 23, 2025, at Hurley Hospital of
Flint, MI. Julie was born on November 25, 1966, in Detroit, MI as the daughter of Carol & Joseph. She grew up in Howell, MI and attended school at Howell Community Schools.
In 1988, she married Kurt Lewis Shubel in Howell, MI. After graduating, Julie
pursued a license of cosmetology and then went on to gain resistance-free license
training for horses. Julie served with her husband in a local community organization in
Howell, MI and this was just the start to a lifelong commitment of serving. Upon moving
to Deckerville, MI – Julie resurrected the Boy Scouts group for the community and
continued serving on it for over ten years. In 2001, while raising four children and
growing her dream of a horse farm – Julie and her husband opened Above & Beyond
Tuxedo Shop. In the years following, Julie brought the dream of Above & Beyond Farms
to life. A dream which originated from the passion her dad and her shared for horses
while she was growing up. Immediately following this triumph, Julie dipped her toes into
the world of 4H and the equestrian team at Deckerville Schools. Through her business
and 4H, she grew a family who shared her passion for horses and serving the
community.
Julie is survived in life by her loving husband of 37 years, Kurt Lewis Shubel and her
four children; Kendra (Alex) Messing, Jasmine (Caleb) Shubel, Kameron (Jessica)
Shubel, and Justin (Emily) Shubel. One of her greatest joys in life was her
grandchildren; Carter, Jackson, and Charlotte (Kendra & Alex), Sophie, Leo, and Norah
(Jasmine & Caleb), Jasper and Alex (Kameron & Jessica). Julie and Kurt opened their
home to people as they saw a need they could help to meet. While the list is long and
there were too many to count, two who remained at her bedside until the very end were
Jared Seta and Joel (Faith) Pierce.
Julie enriched the lives of many in countless, intangible ways who will carry their impact
with them always. Julie will not be forgotten whether it’s in the memory that comes from
hearing a horse’s whinny, hoofbeats against the ground or the smell of a good coffee
with hazelnut creamer. To be loved by Julie was to be loved unconditionally and entirely.
