Kathleen Mary Root, known affectionately as Kathy to her family and friends, was a beacon of kindness and gentleness in the lives of all who knew her. Born on December 24, 1946, in Baltimore, MD, she was a Christmas Eve blessing to her late parents, Wayne and Madalyn Nichol. Kathy's journey on this earth came to a peaceful end on June 12, 2025, in Zephyrhills, FL, where she was surrounded by the love and warmth of her family.

Kathy's life was a testament to her enduring faith and the values she held dear. Her intelligence and gentle spirit were evident to all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with her. She shared a nearly 60 year marriage with her husband, Brad Root, and together they raised a family that was her pride and joy. Her children, Brian Root and Karen Robertson, were the embodiment of the love and dedication she poured into her role as a mother. Kathy also found great delight in her role as a grandmother to Dane Marasco, Jessica Dinan, Nicholas (Chloe) Root, Matthew (Mikenze) Corsetti, and Benjamin Root. She was the cherished sister of Robin (Doug) Apsey, and beloved aunt to Christian (Andrea) Apsey and Erin (Keegan) Apsey . Kathy was predeceased by her devoted parents.

Throughout her professional life, Kathy's warmth and amiable nature shone through her work.. She left a lasting impression on the Port Huron Area School District and at Mary Maxim in Port Huron, where she was known for her intelligence and kindness. Kathy's love for the game of golf translated into a fulfilling career where she worked at almost every golf course in Zephyrhills over the past 25 years. Her warm smile was a familiar and welcoming presence in the pro shop, making every golfer feel at home.

Kathy's interests were a reflection of her creative and thoughtful mind. Her love for home decorating crafts showcased her artistic flair and eye for beauty. She found solace and joy in the intricate dance of words within crossword puzzles, and golfing whenever she could find the time. She was always ready to play nine or get some coffee with a friend.

Those who knew Kathy will remember her for the words that best described her: kind, intelligent, witty, and gentle. Her legacy is one of love, faith, and grace. It is with heavy hearts that her family and friends bid farewell to this remarkable woman. Kathy's memory will forever be cherished, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to feel the warmth of her presence.

As Kathy enters the Kingdom of Heaven, we take comfort in knowing that she is at peace with her Lord and Savior. Her life was a journey of faith, love, and gentle kindness that touched the hearts of many. She will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
