Kenneth H. Bartley

Kenneth H. Bartley 93 of Deckerville passed away on May 13, 2019 at Marlette Regional Hospital's Long-Term Care. Kenneth was born on April 2, 1926 in Tyre, Michigan to the late Alfred and Ella (Boehnke) Bartley. The family moved to Deckerville in 1934 where Ken and his sisters attended Deckerville Community Schools. During his high school years, Ken proudly served as the manager for the Eagles basketball and football teams with coach Tom Poole who would later become his father-in-law. Ken was a Deckerville graduate class of 1944. He worked for Lee's Dairy Farm until he was drafted into the Army on December 8, 1950. During his service to his country he traveled to England, Ireland, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. He documented his travels by taking beautiful photos that he often shared with his family. In the Army, he achieved the rank of Corporal before being discharged in 1952. When he returned home, he worked for Deckerville Community Schools and for a time at Buick in Flint. On June 28, 1954, he began a long career of steady and faithful service with the Sanilac Road Commission, retiring on June 28, 1996 after 42 years. On June 28, 1958, Ken married Marian Poole. Marian passed away on August 27, 1995. Ken was blessed with a second marriage to Ruth Falk on May 1, 1999. Ruth preceded Ken in death on December 3, 2013. Kenneth accepted Jesus as his savior when he was 15 years old. He was a certified lay speaker for the United Methodist Church. After marrying Ruth Falk, he became a member of the Deckerville Bible Church were his faith was strengthened. Ken is survived by his 5 children, Janet (Wesley Sr.) Confer of Deckerville, Julie (Tim) Sontag of Croswell, James (Gigi) Bartley of Port Huron, Amy (Elton) McElwee of Flint and Jill Thayer of Deckerville. 16 Grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Edna Foss of Port Huron. He is preceded in death by his sister, Norma MacDonald. Funeral services to honor the life of Kenneth H. Bartley will be held at 2:00 PM., on Friday May 17, 2019 in the Apsey Funeral Home. Pastor Daniel Packer will officiate. Burial will be in Downing Cemetery. Visitation will be rom 11:00 AM., until the time of services on Friday. Memorials may be made to Marlette Regional Hospital, United Hospice or the Deckerville Bible Church.
