Kenneth R. Klaus, age 80, of Palms, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday February 3, 2009 at St. Maryâ??s of Saginaw after a long illness, surrounded by his family.
He was born January 29, 1929 in Detroit, the son of the late Raymond and Evelyn (Erdman) Klaus.
Mr. Klaus attended Minden City School. After graduation he went on to sail the Great Lakes for six years as a first assistant engineer. He wed Marilyn Taylor in February 1953 and together they had seven children. He then joined the Army and served his country proudly. After his honorable discharge from the Army he settled in Palms and began farming. In July of 1986 he wed Sandra Warchuck. He was a salesman for Moormanâ??s Feed and Asgrow Seed. He served on the Deckerville Community School Board of Education, the Deckerville Community Hospital Board and was Supervisor for Delaware Township for 32 years until December 2008. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Forestville.
Ken loved to hunt, play cards, work on the farm, and visit with his friends and customers. He cherished spending time at his cabin in Roscommon with his family. He will truly be missed by all.
Ken is survived by his wife Sandy (Warchuck) Klaus of 23 years, Palms, his first wife Marilyn Klaus of Port Sanilac, six children, Cinda (Dennis) Shanks of Onstead, Lynn (John) Meissner of Hartland, Mark (Sally) Klaus of Plams, Julie (Terry) Meissner of Cedar Springs, Kriss (Renee) Klaus of Lapeer and Eric (Kim) Klaus of Linden; two step-sons Keith (Heidi) Mausolf of Minden City and Bradley (Angela) Mausolf of Forestville, 11 grandchildren ; Beth (Rob) Flumignan , Lee (Kris) Norlock, Alicia and Jonathom Meissner, Dustin, Amanda, and Toni Klaus, Kenneth and Drew Eyer, and Arieona and Addison Klaus. Step-grandchildren; Michael and Hailey Mausolf, Katrina Mausolf, and Alex and Zack Halifax, one great grandson; Ethan Flumignan, three brothers; Earl (Phyllis) Klaus of Deckerville, Ronald (Eleanor) Klaus of Palms, Dale Klaus of Deckerville, and one sister Charlotte Fisher of Flushing, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Evelyn Klaus, one daughter, Cheryl Klaus, and one step-son, Scott Mausolf.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Kenneth R. Klaus will be 11:00 AM., Saturday in Trinity Lutheran Church, Palms. Pastor Richard Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-9 PM., Thursday, 1-9:00 PM., Friday in the Apsey Funeral Home, your â??Legacy of Lifeâ?? funeral home, and from 10:00 AM., until the time of service on Saturday.
Memorials may be given to the Deckerville Community Hospital, Trinity Lutheran Church or the family discretionary fund.
