Margaret B. Van Dahlen

Margaret B. Van Dalen, age 78 of Palms, was called home peacefully on Sunday June 9, 2024 in Autumnwood of Deckerville.

She was born July 6, 1945, in Lapeer County the youngest of seven children of the late Carl and Beatrice (Chase) Walters.

Margaret grew up in the Thumb area, mostly around Forestville. She attended various country schools and graduated as an adult in 1997.

On May 25, 1963, she married Joseph H. Van Dalen in Palms. He preceded her in death August 18, 2023.

Margaret worked at her husband’s various businesses, drove trucks for the Farmers Elevator Company with her husband, helped manage the Michigan Seed and Supplies Store in Port Hope and also worked at their Family Farm and Supply Stores located in several towns in the Thumb. She later became a CNA and worked at the Sanilac Medical Care Facility and Autumnwood of Deckerville. But her best job was babysitting her grandchildren and she loved taking care of the great grandchildren the best.

She is survived by four daughters, Beth Samuelson and Patricia Smith both of Palms, Sally (Rick) Chiotti of Laughlin, NV., and Carol Ruggero of Grand Blanc; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; one brother Larry Walters of Big Rapids; two sisters Caroline Ellsworth of Rockwood, TN., and Katheryn (William) Van Dalen of Port Sanilac and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence Walters, Lester (James) Walters and Carl Walters.

Margaret was glad to earn her wings.

A memorial service will be planned for both Margaret and Joe in August 2024.
