Mary Ann Stone (Lovingly known as Mema), age 88 of Deckerville, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother went to meet her Lord and Savior on Friday September 27, 2024. She was born in Sandusky on February 5, 1936, the second of five children of Nicholas Harter and Mary Rose (Merkler) Harter. She was a lifelong resident of the Deckerville area.
After graduating High School, she married Ralph Dutcher and together they raised four children, Terry Dutcher (Cathy Kappius) of Oscoda, Cheryl Baer (Paul) of Forester, Pamela Dutcher of Deckerville, and Paul Dutcher (Chris) of Deckerville.
Mary Ann started her career working for Clements Wire and Cable in Deckerville. Later, she worked as a receptionist for multiple doctors in Sanilac County before retiring from Deckerville Community Hospital in the insurance field, and she was a devoted member of the East Marion Baptist Church. Being a mild –mannered, loving person, she will always be remembered for her helping hands and warm smile.
Mary Ann lived for her family and will be wonderfully remembered and deeply missed. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren motivated and fueled her life. That is, until a short 10 months ago when Hayden Stone proposed marriage to her. Together they traveled side by side creating the happiest moments in her life. She gladly entered his family and made them hers.
Mary Ann is preceded in death by her late husband Victor Coleman, her two sisters Doris and Kathleen, her parents, grandson Chris Dutcher, and in-laws, Roland and Laurel Dutcher.
Mary Ann leaves behind two sons, Terry (Cathy), Paul (Chris) Dutcher, two daughters, Cheryl (Paul Baer), and Pamela Dutcher, four stepsons Dale (Maureen) Stone, Randy (Judy) Stone, Bradley (Lisa) Stone, Chris (Kendra) Stone, Brother Richard (Judy) Harter and Sister Carol (Don) Rose, 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Mary Ann’s years as a snowbird also include a multitude of those she met and befriended. Along with her family and friends, Mary Ann leaves behind a giant void that her heart once filled.
Family and friends will gather at the Apsey Funeral Home on Monday, September 30 between 4:00 pm and 8:00pm. Her funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 1 with Pastor David Frost officiating.
Memorials may be given to the East Marion Baptist Church or Gideons International.
