Mary Jane Vogel, 88, of Deckerville, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2025. Born in Palms, MI, on September 23, 1936, to the late Elmer and Isabelle Peruski, Mary Jane was known for her unwavering faith, strength, and generous heart.

She attended Hunt School in Palms, MI. As the eldest child in her family, she quickly became her father’s right-hand man and took on many responsibilities on the farm. She shared a close bond with her siblings: the late Irene Walling, Elmer Peruski Jr., Judy Harter, and Joann Stacer.

On November 22, 1952, Mary Jane married the love of her life, Charles Vogel. Shortly after their wedding, they moved to California, where Charles was stationed in the Air Force. Three years later, they returned to Palms, MI, to build their life on a dairy farm, which they ran together until retirement.  Their home was filled with love and devotion, and their family was always their greatest joy. Charles preceded her in death on April 18, 2005.

Mary Jane was the proud mother of seven children: Charles Larry (Suzette) Vogel of Deckerville, Ronald (Charlotte) Vogel of Palms, Suzanne Bower (Randy Mitchell) of Sandusky, Diane (Russ) Flanagan of Deckerville, Dale Vogel (Linda Becker) of Palms, Gail (Kurt) Heilig of Roscommon, and Peggy (Tim) Ross of Deckerville. She was a cherished grandmother to 20 grandchildren—Curt, Talisa, Trisha, Chad, Matt, Jim, Jeannie, Jody, Shannon, Jeff, Sheila, Marc, Michelle, Kyle, Stephanie, Bryan, Kelly, Erin, Nick, and Jenna—all of whom held special places in her heart. She also adored her 49 great-grandchildren and eagerly anticipated the arrival of her first great-great-grandchild. The love she shared with her family was evident in her daily life, conversations, and the time she spent with them.

A dedicated pillar of her church and community, Mary Jane’s life was marked by faith, service, and kindness. She spent over 20 years working at Deckerville Community Schools as a bus driver. Mary Jane was also a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Palms for her entire life. She loved playing cards, traveling, sewing, baking, watching Westerns, and visiting with family. After retirement, she continued utilizing her farming skills and created an empire on Hay Day.  Her warm smile, laughter, treat-giving, and willingness to help others will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
