Michael Brian Murphy, 73, of Deckerville passed away unexpectedly on July 2, 2022 after fighting complications of COVID-19. He was born April 30,1949 in Farmington, MI to the late Walter and Marion (Clifford) Murphy. He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Meghan Murphy (David Sabbagh) of St. Clair, sons Keegan Murphy of North Carolina, and Logan Murphy of Deckerville; their mother, Mary Unger; and Dustin Daniels (Jill) of Grand Rapids; four grandchildren, Dylan, Luke, Charles and Jonathan; brothers Patrick Murphy (Gayle) and Dennis Murphy (Ranell); brother-in-law John Schoen; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Jim Murphy and sister Donna Schoen. Mike graduated from Deckerville High School in 1967. He enlisted in the Marines shortly after high school. He was a proud Marine and served in Vietnam. Mike was the only one of the three Deckerville classmen that returned from the Vietnam war. This took a toll on him his entire life. After he returned from Vietnam, he worked at GM for a short time, before quickly realizing the assembly line was not for him. In 1973, he joined the Michigan State Police. During his time of service, he held the ranks of Trooper, Sergeant, and Detective Sergeant and worked out of the following police posts: Bridgeport, Detroit, Sandusky, Ypsilanti, Flat Rock and Bad Axe. Mike was proud to serve the people of the State of Michigan. Mike enjoyed his family and friends, along with cooking and baking for everyone. If you needed bread, pies, cookies, or other baked goods, Mike was more than happy to give you twice as much as you asked for. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed many hours around the campfire with his hunting buddies. Mike enjoyed farming and spending time with his beloved dogs Bones, Peggy, and Clifford. He also enjoyed flying and traveling. He was a private pilot and owned several different airplanes throughout his journey as a pilot. He recently took a vacation of a lifetime when he visited Hawaii with his children where he was able to visit Pearl Harbor twice in the same week. He enjoyed this trip so much he was already planning on returning next year. A service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 11, 2022 at Apsey Funeral Home in Deckerville, MI. The Rev.
