Randa S. (Hodges,) Matyas

Randa S. (Hodges) Matyas, 58, of Shelby Township, formerly of Deckerville, passed away Monday July 18, 2016 in the home of her sister after a long battle with cancer. She was born November 29, 1957 in Marlette the daughter of the late Henry and Geraldine (Ross) Hodges. Randa was a graduate of Deckerville Community School class of 1975. She received a Master's Degree in Community Development from Fuller Seminary in 2003. She worked as a missionary in Asia from 1986 until 2014. Her missionary work involved working with widows and abandoned women. She lived her life working, ministering and helping people in need. Ms. Matyas is survived by three sisters, Jane (Paul) Arnold of Deckerville, Joyce (Jim) Rutkowski of Shelby Township, and Sally (Dwight) McKenny of Snover, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Geraldine (Ross) Hodges. Funeral services to honor the life of Randa S. (Hodges) Matyas will be 11:00 AM., Saturday July 23, 2016 in the Apsey Funeral Home. Pastors David Coleman and David Frost will officiate. Burial will be in Downing Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-7:00 PM., Friday and 10:00 AM., until the time of services on Saturday. Memorials may be given to the family discretionary fund.
