Robert Charles Hartway, 89, of Richmond, passed away peacefully January 16, 2026 with his loving family by his side. Robert was born July 21, 1936 to the late Albert and Ella (Osterland) Hartway. Cherished father of Karen (David) Tousignant; caring grandfather of Hunter (Hailey) Tousignant, who all enjoyed caring for and loving him over the last years of his life. Also, father to Debbi Williams; grandfather to Brittany (Robert) Bordley and Kelsey Williams. Adored brother-in-law of Richard (Virginia) Fistler. Also survived by many nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his loving and cherished wife Joyce Hartway (April 10, 2025); also proceeded by his siblings, Lorraine (William) Schultz and Carl (Bernice) Hartway; in laws, August (Elvera) Fistler, Edward (Katherine) Fistler, Isabel (John) Willing, Marvin (Dorothy) Fistler, and Norman (Beverly) Fistler. Robert served his country at an early age in the Army. He came home and married the love of his life, Joyce, for 64 years. They were married on December 3, 1960 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Richmond. Together, they made Richmond their choice to raise a family. Bob worked as a milk delivery man for Richmond Dairy, then moved on to Dolan Oil where he continued to make more friends as he memorized the streets of Richmond, Memphis, and the surrounding areas. After Dolan Oil closed, Bob was employed by Threaded Products on Lowe Plank where he retired. Bob was a lifelong resident of Richmond and member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He was often heard saying, “I was baptized, confirmed, married, and will be buried at St. Peter’s”. Bob’s pride and joy was always taking care of his yard and home, something he and Joyce enjoyed doing together. He always kept watch over the neighborhood and knew of all the happenings, including times of mail delivery. Bob was a huge fan of baseball, especially the Detroit Tigers! In the summer, he really enjoyed watching the vintage baseball games with the “Richmond Bee’s” at Beebe Park. A highlight to a hot summer day were his frequent trips to either McDonald’s or Burger King, and his love for vanilla ice cream. He absolutely loved car rides around town that his grandson, Hunter, would take him on. Especially when the holiday lights were on and during the Good Old Days Festival. Although you would never notice it, Bob had a big sweet tooth for Joyce and Karen’s baked goods that he enjoyed every day. Most of all he cherished his time with his family and extended family neighborhood friends. “And all God’s people say…Amen!”.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm. With a visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service on Wednesday January 21, 2026 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 67055 Gratiot Ave, Richmond, MI 48062.
