Thelma R. Smith

Thelma Rose (Lamont) Smith, age 98 of Deckerville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday February 7, 2016 with her family by her side at Autumnwood of Deckerville. She was born July 22, 1917 on the family farm on Big Creek Rd., in Marion Township to the late William J. and Clarah B. (Burgett) Lamont. Thelma R. Lamont married Marvin G. Smith on February 8, 1935 in Snover, MI. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1990. She was a member of the Deckerville Bible Church and helped the church ladies put on many funeral dinners over the years. She enjoyed baking, canning, watching sports and spending time with her family. Mrs. Smith is survived by two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Joanne Smith and Mrs. Mary Smith, both of Deckerville. Five grandchildren, Greg (Kim) Smith of Deckerville, Denise (Dennis) Brabant of Grand Ledge, Diane (Grant) Stone of Sandusky, Paul (Kathy) Smith of Deckerville and Tricia (Brian) Pawlowski of Filion, Eleven great grandchildren, Andrew Smith, Tiffany Smith, Stephanie (Jeremy) Boothroyd, Mike Brabant, Nick Stone, Emily Stone, Joe Stone, Kally Smith, Ben Smith, Sheridan Pawlowski, and Kendall Pawlowski, one great great grandchild, Autumn Boothroyd, and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces, and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her two sons, Marvin "Keith" Smith and William H. Smith, one granddaughter Tracy L. Smith, and great grandson William Stanley Smith, three brothers, Glenn Lamont, Ray Lamont, and William "Keith" Lamont, two sisters, Edith Scheonrock, and Mary (Duncan) Wilkowski. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Thelma R. Smith will be 3:00 PM., Friday in the Apsey Funeral Home. Rev. Jeff Homan will officiate. Burial will be in Downing Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:00-8:00 PM., Thursday and from 2:00 PM., until the time of service on Friday. Memorials may be given to the Deckerville Bible Church, Deckerville Education Foundation, or United Hospice.
