Theresa F. Kozlakowski

Theresa F. Kozlakowski, a cherished soul and beacon of light to all who knew her, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, in Sandusky, MI. Born on January 16, 1951, in Troy, MI, Theresa's life was a testament to love, dedication, and joy. Theresa was born and raised in Michigan, grew up in the Metro area and was a proud graduate of Mott High School in Madison Heights, class of 1969 She traveled as a young woman often to Virginia; to be with family, her youthful spirit and love of adventure were evident in her early years and remained a constant throughout her life. On November 11, 1970, Theresa married the love of her life, James Kozlakowski, in a beautiful ceremony in their hometown of Troy. Their union was one of true companionship and mutual respect, lasting until James' passing on June 1, 2022. Together, Theresa and James raised three remarkable daughters: Kimberly Theresa, found her Northstar with Ron Robbins; Heather Mary Ann, who found love with Ian Palmer; and Kelly Laura, who joined hearts with Eric Roberts. Theresa's legacy continued to bloom with the birth of her seven grandchildren and the joyous arrival of twelve great-grandchildren. Her family was her pride, and she instilled in them the values of love, hard work, and the importance of family. In addition to her immediate family, Theresa is survived by her two sisters, Shirley Surant and Janice (Ken) Dryer and her brother Tracy Fleming. She was preceded in death by her sister Jeanie Lamberti and her beloved grandson, Ron Webb. The bond between Theresa and her family was a source of strength and comfort, reflecting the close-knit nature of their family. Theresa's professional life was as rich and varied as her personal interests. She dedicated many years to working on the family dairy farm near Brown City, MI, where she developed an unparalleled work ethic and a deep connection to the land and animals. Her nurturing spirit led her to a fulfilling career as a Mental Health Technician, where she served as a caregiver to those in need. Theresa's compassion and empathy were a beacon of hope to many, leaving a lasting impact on the community. Her passions extended beyond her work, as she was an avid decorator and thoughtful gift giver, finding solace and creative expression. This love of adventure in her life led her and Jim down to South Carolina for 15 years before settling back in Michigan to retire. Theresa treasured the moments spent going to the movie theater with her daughters and watching her shows at home on TV, which provided her with relaxation and entertainment. In her younger years, along with her husband, Jim, they had a love for dancing, and when they danced, it was a symbol of their connection to each other. Their hearts always beat to the same drum. Theresa F. Kozlakowski's life was a beautiful mosaic of love, family, and service. Her warm smile and kind heart will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with her. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we celebrate the indelible mark she has left on our hearts and the world around her. Theresa's spirit will continue to dance in the memories of those she loved and the lives she touched. Services will be held Wednesday September 3, 2025 3-5 PM at the Apsey Funeral Home, Deckerville, and the graveside service will be held on Thursday September 4, 2025 at 1:00 PM in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Detroit.
