William R. (Bill) Bittner

William R. Bittner, age 76, of Sandusky, passed away Monday September 5, 2016 in Covenant Healthcare, Saginaw. He was born May 29, 1940 the son of the late William and Mable (Smith) Bittner. He grew up in the Detroit area, graduating from Lincoln High School, then moved to the Deckerville area with his parents. Bill's first job was at the Lefler Ford Dealership in Deckerville, then he moved to the Midwest Rubber Company where he spent 53 years working as a production engineer. He enjoyed restoring old cars, woodworking, hunting, and working on mechanical problems other people couldn't figure out. Bill was a member of the Historical Society, Gem and Rock Association and Quality Deer Management. He is survived by three sons, Robert Bittner and Richard Bittner both of Sandusky, Jason Bittner of Avoca, one daughter Leslie (Tom) Buerkle of Sandusky, ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by one daughter Dawn Goodknecht, and a sister Theresa (Terri) Bittner. A memorial service to celebrate the life of William R. Bittner will be held at 11:30 AM., Friday in the Apsey Funeral Home. Rev. Max Amstutz will officiate. Cremation has taken place at May Memorial Crematory. Visitation will be 9:30 AM., until the time of service in the funeral home.
